Claude D. "Sonny" Benedict Jr.

Claude D. “Sonny” Benedict Jr., age 95, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025. Born on July 2, 1930, to the late Claude and Ruth Benedict in Oshkosh, Sonny was a beloved son, husband, father, and friend. 

He dedicated 48 years of his life to Georgia Pacific, where he built lasting friendships and made a significant impact as a supervisor. Sonny was a familiar face in the Oshkosh community, often starting his day with breakfast at Mike’s Place Diner and enjoying Sunday mornings at Two Brothers Restaurant. Fish fries with his friends were treasured outings, and he took pleasure in watching the news and cheering on his beloved Cubs and Packers while spending quality time with family. 

For 15 years, he served on the Aging Community Committee, always advocating for the welfare of others. He will be cherished forever by his family, along with the memories of joyful hours spent picking out flowers at Honeymoon Acres for his yard and going on bus trips with friends from the senior center. 

Sonny is survived by his daughter, Claudia Block (Steve Boettcher); grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Block and Michael Block, Curtis Sawall; great-grandson Austin Block. He is further survived by his sister, Lorna K. and her children Patricia and Andrea.

His late wife, Edwina, who passed away in 2016, and their daughter, Carla Sawall, will warmly welcome him in the next life. 

The family will celebrate Sonny’s life with a visitation on December 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Konrad-Behlman-West (100 Lake Pointe Dr.) followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A gathering of friends and family will take place to honor the man who brought so much joy and love to those around him. Sonny’s warmth, laughter, and kindness will be greatly missed, but we will carry his spirit in our hearts as we remember his incredible life filled with love and laughter.
