Earl Francis Hephner, age 86 of Oshkosh, passed away at his residence on January 21, 2026. He was born at his family home on August 16, 1939 to the late Jay and Zoea (Young) Hephner in the Township of Rantoul.
Earl’s journey began in the heart of his family home, and it continued as he united in marriage with Joan Rieder on September 24, 1966, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge. Together, they nurtured a loving family, raising three children—Carolyn, Nicholas, and Nancy—who were the pride and joy of his life.
His commitment to service was exemplified by his time in the United States Army, and he continued to serve his community through a dedicated career with the United States Postal Service. Earl found joy in simple pleasures; he loved traveling, indulging in novels, and engaging in crossword puzzles. His playful spirit thrived during spirited games of Scrabble with his grandchildren. Earl was also a devoted fan of his favorite teams, indulging in many lively moments while watching the Brewers and Packers. He cherished his walks in the park with his son Nicholas.
Earl is survived by his wife, Joan Hephner; children, Carolyn, Nicholas, and Nancy; grandchildren, Hans and Jacob Hoelzer, Elise, Carly, and Marin Gorman; siblings, Fr. John Hephner, Pearl (Hank) Vander Wielen, Russell Hephner, Janet Schmitz and Theresa (Ron) Wroblewski.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harvey (Delores) Hephner; brother-in-law, Cyril Schmitz.
