Elizabeth "Betty" J. Krasny

February 2, 1938 — July 4, 2025

Oshkosh

Betty Jean Krasny née Funk was born February 2, 1938 in Lancaster, Wisconsin, to Bernice and Joseph Funk, and sister, Joyce. When she was 7, they moved to Wisconsin Rapids, where her dad worked for the phone company. It was her mother, a gifted seamstress, who instilled in her the love she had for fashion, which was a passion she carried her whole life.

Betty survived two dreaded, childhood diseases: polio, and rheumatic fever. She didn't let either of those get in her way, and lived her life with courage, and compassion for everyone. She taught her children that we are all worthy of empathy and respect, that we all have something to contribute to the world.

A lifelong Catholic, she had a strong faith in God, and humanity. Everyone who knew her spoke of her kindness and good humor. She was everyone's friend, and could always be counted on for a laugh, or a shoulder to cry on.

After graduation from Lincoln High School, she attended UW-Eau Claire for a year before accepting a job at Fey Publishing as a proofreader in 1958. That summer, she met Thomas Krasny, a pharmacology student at UW-Madison, at a little dive bar between Rapids and Stevens Point, A humble place to start a lifelong love. On August 13, 1960, they got married and started building a life together. In October of 1962 they welcomed a son, Kevin Thomas, into the family. By November 1967 they adopted their infant daughter, Kristen Ann, born September 13. In 1969, the family moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where Tom took a position as a pharmacist with Mueller-Potter Drugstore.

Betty loved being a mom and was known for how much she truly enjoyed playing with her kids- they went everywhere with her. She taught her kids to read, do math, and to think for themselves. Once her youngest was in high school, she went to work for Mercy Medical Hospital in admitting, but soon moved up to the medical library, where she worked until she retired. As usual, she made lots of good friends who valued her kindness, humor. and intelligence.

Betty's life was filled with love, family, and friendship. She is survived by her loving husband, Tom, her son Kevin (Amv) Krasny, her daughter Kristen (Jeff) Krasny, her grandson Sam (Stephanie) Krasny, granddaughter Nicole (Luke) Krasny, a special cousin Sandy (Lyle) Schneider, and her beloved sister, Joyce Gill. Also surviving her is a friend, Sandy Youngman. There are also many nieces and nephews she held dear to her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Joseph Funk, her brother-in-law Robert Gill, and her sister-in-law Cindy Haught. Betty will be missed by all of those whose lives she touched.
