Gerald L. Knops

Gerald L. Knops, age 86, of Omro, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, at Elijah's Place in Oshkosh.

Gerald was born on August 5, 1939, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from South Milwaukee High School in 1957 and later earned an associate degree in Graphic Arts. After a career as a lithographer, he retired to Omro, where he enjoyed pursuing many of his hobbies and spending time with family. On May 26, 1967, he married the love of his life, Darlene Chaloupek, and together they shared 59 years of marriage. Gerald also proudly served in the Army Reserves.

A man of many talents and interests, Gerald earned a black belt in both Karate and Judo and taught self-defense classes for many years. He cherished time with his family, especially trips to Disney, Rhinelander, and the many fishing vacations spent at Cass Lake, Minnesota. Gerald was also passionate about the art of bonsai, earning numerous merit awards and operating his business, All Things Bonsai, through which he shared his knowledge and helped others discover and enjoy the hobby. He also enjoyed fishing on Big Lake Butte des Morts.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Knops; his son, Scott (Marianne) Knops; his daughter, Kelly (Kim) Crist; his grandchildren, Adam, Ashley, Amanda, Cassidy, Elena, and Sean; and his great-grandson, Braxton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Christ and Regene Knops; his parents-in-law, Marshall and Hazel Chaloupek; his brothers, Marlowe Johnston and Charles Johnston; and other family members and friends.

A memorial service for Gerald will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Grace Lutheran Church, 720 Jackson Avenue, Omro, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will follow at the church.
