Glenn Harlan Miller, age 85, of Oshkosh, WI, passed away the morning of Monday, December 22nd during a brief stay at Aurora Hospital. He was born on June 8, 1940, to the late George and Violet Miller in Barron, WI. Glenn left life on the farm to pursue his education. A semester before graduating from UW-Eau Claire in 1962, Glenn was hired by the Oshkosh Area School District and began his teaching career as an English teacher. He went on to earn a master's degree in counseling from UW-Oshkosh and was ultimately the Head Guidance Counselor at Oshkosh West High School. He was also an active member of the UW Oshkosh Alumni Association. On August 21st, 1965, Glenn married Jane Hoare and they were blessed with two children, Anne and Sarah. Jane preceded Glenn in death, passing in 1970.
In the late 80's Glenn met Margaret Thornton and after his retirement in 1998 they were married in 1999. Glenn was a loving stepdad to Mary and Meg. This marriage of nearly twenty-six years was the backdrop for many adventures, from halibut fishing in Alaska, to weekends at Washington Island, fishing for red snapper in the Gulf, and cruises in Alaska, the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, and South America. Glenn and Margaret's home was well-known for the elaborate and carefully tended gardens. The gardens and yard were always home to squirrels, chipmunks (although they were often relocated), deer, and of course, the real rulers of the house, standard poodles.
Glenn was a wonderful grandfather to Jesse and Logan Nehring and delighted in their growing up into fine young men.
A kind and genuine soul, Glenn was the type of man that was steadfast in his loyalty to his family, friends, and loved ones. His patience is legendary. His presence will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.
Glenn is survived by his wife Margaret, daughters Anne Miller and Sarah Miller (Paul Nehring), grandsons Jesse and Logan Nehring, and stepdaughters, Mary and Meg Thornton. He was preceded in death by brother Roger and, sister-in-law, Betty Miller.
