We sadly announce the passing of our dear Jack McAndrews, age 93, on Date March 8th, 2024, He left us peacefully surrounded by loved ones. He was born July 6th, 1930, in Downers Grove, Ill.
He married the love of his life Barbara Watson, May 6th, 1950. With 73 years together, he was a devoted partner to Barb and they had many adventures together.
He is known for being a man of honor and faith and a loving and devoted husband and father. He was also a pretty fun guy. His quick witt and sense of humor are known far and wide. He liked to snow ski and water ski. He loved boating, camping and scubadiving on old shipwrecks. For many years he and his family spent Christmas fishing in the Keys
He was a great business man and entrepreneur.
He was Branch manager for home office of Mercury Outboards and owner of Hess Marine. He made Hess Marine into the 7th. largest Searay boat dealer in the world while being in the smallest market area. They were also a Honda car and motorcycle dealership as well.
But his favorite endeavor was establishing Aqualand Camp Resort in Door County, which has been in the family for three generations now.
An article written by Jeff Kleinhuizen in The Green Bay Gazette, 1991, perfectly describes his transition from corproate businessman to Campground owner/operator.
"Then in 1981, McAndrews traded his blue suit for a blue collar. That's when he bought 67 acres south of Sister Bay and developed 150 camp sites, now called Aqualand."
The campground has brought much joy to many families over the years.
After retiring a second time from the campground he enjoyed organizing a men's breakfast ministry. He and his best friends would gather every other Tuesday for fellowship and food and laughter. It began with his 3 closest friends and grew to a solid 20 men that now meet regularly...and will continue to in honor of Jack.
He is survived by his son Michael McAndrews (Karen) and daughter Patrica McAndrews; Grandchildren Jake McAndrews, Josh Sweeney (Carol), Yana Sweeney, Scott Gavin (Iulia),
Great grandchildren Maylene, Cecilia, Lilliana, Isabella, Ellie, Yasmina,
His brother-in-law Merle (Marilyn) Watson and the late Hubert Watson (Alene).
