James “Jim” J. Hielsberg, age 60 of Oshkosh, passed away unexpectedly due to natural causes on Saturday, July 12, 2025. He was born on August 15, 1964 in Oshkosh, WI to the late Robert and Barbara (Koch) Hielsberg.
Jim graduated from Oshkosh West High School in 1983. He dedicated over 20 years of his life to Banner Packaging/Bemis before embracing a new chapter at Oshkosh Corporation in 2016, where he continued to be a devoted and respected employee. His strong work ethic, reliability, and kind nature left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.
He was known not just for his dedication to his work, but also for his incredible skills in the kitchen. From grilling and smoking meats to crafting the best chicken noodle soup, Jim brought joy to many through his food. Music was another passion of Jim’s — especially rock n’ roll, 80’s hair bands, and the timeless tunes of The Beatles. He often had music playing in the background, and his playlists could spark nostalgia and good conversation wherever he went. Jim also had a great appreciation for being with friends and family. Whether it was boating trips and cabin life at Pearl Lake, going for bike rides, or simply spending time with friends around a bonfire, he found peace and happiness in music and good company. Jim was a proud father and grandfather. While he expressed love in quiet ways, those close to him knew his care ran deep.
Jim is survived by his children, Jamie (Brian) Schwarz, Tanner Hielsberg, and Josie (Dominic Ranieri) Hielsberg; grandchildren, Starlyn, Taygen, and Kobie; sister, Julie Konop; and sister-in-law, Margarita Hielsberg. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members, along with many dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Greg Hielsberg, as well as his brother-in-law, Mark Konop.
Jim's legacy lives on in the people who knew and cared for him. He will be remembered for his love of music, his talent in the kitchen, and the meaningful connections he built with friends and family over the years. A celebration of life for Jim will be held at The Hangar Bar and Grill, 1485 W 20th Ave, Oshkosh, WI 54902 on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
