Oshkosh

Jerald “Jerry” K. Discher, age 84, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully at Bella Vista on February 24, 2026. Born on September 4, 1941, in Oshkosh to the late Harold and Gertrude (Farber) Discher, Jerry embodied the spirit of home and family throughout his life.

On August 6, 1966, Jerry joined in marriage with his beloved wife, Helen Nottleman, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Together, they lovingly raised two sons, Richard and David, instilling in them the values of hard work, kindness, and a deep appreciation for the great outdoors.

Jerry graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1961 and proudly served in the United States Army. Following his military service, he entered the world of carpentry, becoming a skilled journeyman. His career began with an apprenticeship at Discher Mill Work, where he ultimately retired from the family business. With dedication and an eye for detail, he built his dream home, meticulously crafting each space with Helen, family and friends in mind.

An outdoor enthusiast at heart, Jerry found joy in duck and deer hunting and fishing. His passion extended to community service; he proudly served as a Cubmaster for both of his sons’ cub dens, fostering a love for nature and adventure in the next generation. Jerry was a 50-year member of the South Side Ice Yacht Club who enjoyed the camaraderie that came with it. Alongside Helen, he took great pleasure in raising their cherished Westies and Golden Retrievers and witnessing the miracle of new life as several litters of puppies came into the world.

Jerry is lovingly survived by his wife, Helen Discher; son, Richard (Elyse) Discher; brother, James (Patricia) Discher. He is further survived by cousins, extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his son, David Discher; parents Harold and Gertude Discher; father-and-mother-in-law, Henry Nottleman and Bertha (Ed) Nottleman Resheske; and sister-in-law, Jean Nottleman. He was further preceded in death by aunts, uncles, cousins, good friends and loyal dogs.

In reflection of Jerry’s wishes, no formal services will be held. His life will be celebrated privately by his family and friends, honoring the warmth and love he shared with all.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jerry’s name may be directed to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society or the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter, organizations that reflect his commitment to caring for our furry friends.
