John Joseph Green, age 76, passed away peacefully at home in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, following a 53-year battle with multiple sclerosis.
Born to Gerald and Elsie Green in 1950 in Random Lake, Wisconsin, John graduated from Freedom High School in 1968, where he participated in track, wrestling, and football. He served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, training in artillery and as a cook. Later he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans for more than 50 years and held numerous offices with the organization during that time.
John greatly enjoyed the outdoors and was especially fond of hunting up north, fishing from his pontoon boat, and spending time with his hunting dogs. He also enjoyed travel and visited the Grand Canyon in Arizona; the Veterans Memorial in Angel Fire, New Mexico; and the Ron Corley southwestern mission in New Mexico. A longtime sports enthusiast, he loved both playing high school sports and later following spectator sports, especially the Packers and Brewers.
John married his wife Karen in 1991. He began attending Wyldewood Baptist Church in 1997, and after hearing the gospel there and realizing his need of salvation, he accepted Christ as his personal savior in 1998. Following his salvation, he studied at the Wyldewood Baptist Bible Institute. He loved the Lord, his church, and gospel missions, and over the years he prayed for and supported various missionary endeavors through Wyldewood Baptist Church. He was instrumental in helping others with both ministry and personal needs and served on the Advisory Board of The Master's Craftsmen.
John is lovingly remembered by his wife Karen, brothers George (Barb) and Bill (Rose), sister-in-law Deb, many nieces and nephews, and numerous members of his Wyldewood Baptist Church family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Elsie Green; sisters Minnie and Mary; and brothers Mike and Pete.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 22, at Wyldewood Baptist Church, 2020 Witzel Avenue, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, from 4:30-6:00 p.m., and a service at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Green Bay DAV Chapter 3.
