John D. Williams, age 74, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. He was born to the late George and Evelyn (Frey) Williams on October 9, 1951, in Oshkosh. He married Cynthia Cottrell on July 1,1989.
John grew up working on his family farm and graduated from Omro High School and was later drafted by the US Navy. After serving his country he went on to get a bachelor's degree from Marion University. He spent his career as a Sargent with Taycheedah Correctional Institution for over 15 years.
John loved playing card and dice games, especially Spades, Clue, Pit, Rummy, Farkle, and Yahtzee. He enjoyed taking road trips with his family. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren, sharing stories and encouraging them in all they did.
In his quieter moments, John enjoyed reading and browsing bookstores. A bass singer himself, he loved music and rarely missed his grandchildren's choir and band concerts. He also enjoyed listening to bass singers and quartets.
John was also a fan of movies, especially seeing them in the theater. Known for his practical nature, he always appreciated finding a good deal-whether at the theater or anywhere else. Above all, John was a devoted Christian.
John is survived by his children, Benjamin Williams, Rachel (Dylyn) Roberts, Daniel (Carrie) Williams Sr., and Grace Williams; grandchildren, Henry Roberts, Daniel Jr., David, Adam, Andrew, and Eleanor Williams; as well as the mother of his children, Cynthia (Raymond) Emmer; his uncle, Ray Morris and his children, Sharon and Stephen Morris.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by, sister, Rhoda.
A funeral service will be held at Wyldewood Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 11AM. A time of visitation will be held from 9:30AM until the time of service. A burial will follow at Lake View Memorial Park.
