Johnny E. Haymon Sr.

July 1, 1935 — June 4, 2026

Oshkosh

Johnny E. Haymon, Sr. was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 4, 2026 at the age of 89 plus 1 (90). He was born on July 1, 1935, in Dermott, Arkansas. He was the youngest son of John and Maggie Haymon.

During his younger years he became the father of three daughters, Brenda Faye (John Sr.) Westbrook, Linda F. (Edward) Stevenson, and Cynthia (Bernard) McCann.

He graduated from Chicot County Training School, May 20, 1955. After graduation, Johnny spent three years of military service in the United States Army Branch. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he found his way to Gary, Indiana. There he secured a job at Inland Steel Company, where he worked for 35 years. During this time, he was ready to pursue his lovely bride, Shirley Ann Binns. They were married June 22, 1958, in Gary. Johnny was a devoted husband and a caring, generous and loving father. To this union was born Judith L. Haymon, Sandra Haymon, and Johnny E. Haymon, Jr. He was always very proud of the ability to build a new house for his family.

Johnny chose to make Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior and attended Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Gary. He served many faithful years on the Usher Board and as a Sunday School Teacher.

After the loss of his beloved wife, Shirley in 1999, Johnny found love again with Ethel Lee (Babycakes) Jackson. He married her in October of 2004. They were a loving couple until her passing on November 4, 2021.

Now alone in Gary, it was decided by his two daughters (Judi and Sandra) to relocate him to Wisconsin. The relocation was difficult for him, but he finally settled in. He made some new friends that loved him very much. Johnny’s witty personality, his gift of gab, and his challenging conversations will be missed.

Johnny does not leave to mourn, but to cherish his legacy, his daughters: Judith L. Haymon, Sandra (Will) Haymon, Brenda Faye (John Sr.) Westbrook, Linda F. (Edward) Stevenson, and Cynthia (Bernard) McCann, and son: Johnny E. Haymon, Jr., three grandchildren, Rashaud Johnson, Javaughn (Rico) Johnson-Brown, Tamara (Arthur L.)
