Karen L. Thon

Karen Lee Thon, age 80, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024, with her family at her side. She was born June 9, 1943 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to the late Gerald and Jean (Dolphin) Mathe. She married Ernest K. Thon on September 2, 1961 in Oshkosh. Karen and Ernie were married for 35 years prior to his death on February 2, 1996.

Karen worked at Oshkosh B’Gosh, Block Iron & Supply, Buckstaff, Oshkosh Truck and SNC in various finance and management positions. After retiring and moving to a condo, she was the association treasurer for years and was agent to another association. She loved gardening, canning and cooking. Her favorite sports were golf and bowling which she had to give up in 2011, due to her health. Karen was very generous with her time, always helping people in any way she could.

Karen is survived by two daughters, Michelle (David) Kretzmann, Omro, Lynelle Thon Hall, Seattle, and one son, Casey (Beth) Thon, Oshkosh, former daughter-in-law, Vicky (Steve) Funk, sister, Christine Jury, four grandsons, Ernie (Erica) Kretzmann, Theo Kretzmann, Jake Thon (Kayla La Palme) & Diondre Thon, and three step-grandsons, Alec Harrah (Kayla Roberts), Brett Schmitz (Samantha Skogeboe) and Cody Schmitz. Karen was also eagerly awaiting the birth of her first great-grandson. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Margaret (Lee) Luebke, brothers-in-law, Norman Thon and Norbert Hartman, former sister-in-law, Shirley Thon and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernie, her parents, brother, James Mathe, sisters-in-law, Rose Hartman and Vivian Mathe, and two nephews, Gibby Hanseter and Mark Mathe.

The family would like to thank Karen’s neighbors Maggie Ingram and Chris Cook for their help and support during the last few years.

The funeral service will be held at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside, 100 Lake Pointe Dr. on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of the service.
