Margaret Mary Burghaus (nee Andree), age 80, passed away at home in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Saturday, May 24th, 2025. She was born at home to the late August and Georgianna (Kubes) Andree in Ogema, WI on January 20th, 1945.
Margaret's Primary school education was in a very small country school, one teacher, grades 1st through 8th with all three Andree sisters attending together. She attended Prentice High School in Prentice, Wisconsin. Margaret was awarded the Betty Crocker Home Maker of the Year Award for Prentice High School in 1963 and was a member of the Badger Girls and 4-H. One of the highlights of her Senior year in High School was her class trip that she travelled by Train to Washington, DC and saw JFK's children playing on the White House Lawn. On January 14th, 1967, she married Gerald F. Burghaus in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. She was a Stay-At-Home Mom and helped Gerald continue his education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, upon Gerald's graduation with a master's degree in education, they moved to Socorro, New Mexico where Gerald joined the management staff at New Mexico Tech.
Being the daughter of a rural dairy farmer, she loved to make things grow. She enjoyed gardening and the challenge of successfully raising flowers and vegetables in the sandy desert soil. She was told that she would never be able to grow an Avocado tree from a pit, and she did! And this tree is still thriving in Socorro, New Mexico today.
Margaret is survived by the love of her life, and her best friend Gerald. They were married for 58 years. They were blessed with two Children, Wesley J. Burghaus of Oshkosh, Wisconsin and Wendy J. Burghaus (Jacob) Ruiz of Albuquerque, New Mexico. They have two beautiful granddaughters, Sophia Georgianna Ruiz and Marisa Soleil Ruiz. Gerald took an early retirement, and they returned to Wisconsin in 2001.
In addition to her parents, she had two older sisters Josephine Neumann and Alice Grunwald that preceded her in death.
