Margaret M. Schmude, age 99 of Oshkosh, passed away on July 24, 2026. She was born on March 28, 1927 in Oshkosh to the late Roy and Edna (Wagner) Wickman. She married the love of her life, William Schmude, on September 27, 1946, at First English Lutheran Church. Their love story began on New Year’s Eve in 1944 at the Eagles Ballroom, and they soon moved to the Town of Poygan, where they lived on the Schmude family farm for 40 wonderful years before returning to Oshkosh in 1990.
Margaret was a talented seamstress who poured her heart into everything she made. She was deeply devoted to her family, her home, and her three cherished yorkies, who brought boundless joy into her life. Among her many hobbies, she assembled an impressive fourteen-room Victoria’s Choice dollhouse, complete with working lights, as a tribute to her beloved daughter, Rita. This treasure is displayed at the Omro Historical Society Museum.
Margaret was an active member of First English Lutheran Church, contributing her time to the Mary-Martha Circle Women’s Bible Study, and Cross Connections Bible Study. She was also Past Worth High Priestess of Bethel Shrine #2 and a member of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Omro Historical Society, and the 20th Century Club. Professionally, she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at various local businesses, including Hendrickson Chiropractic, Tiddens Management Company and 7-UP Bottling Company.
Margaret leaves behind a loving family, including cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many dear friends. She will also be sorely missed by her sweet yorkie, Kim, who filled her final years with love and companionship.
She joined her husband William (gone 30 years), daughter Rita (gone 20 years), brothers Kenneth (1921-2010), Lawrence (1922-2003), and Robert (1924-2013), and her beloved yorkies, Kayti and Kaelei, in peace.
A funeral service for Margaret will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside, 100 Lake Pointe Dr. at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A private burial will take place at Lake View Memorial Park.
Memorials in Margaret’s name directed to First English Lutheran Church and to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society would be deeply appreciated.
