Marilyn Dahl was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She left this world on January 20, 2022 at age 77 in Rochester, MN, with her family by her side.
Marilyn was born at home to Harold and Eleanor (Welch) Garbelman on February 21, 1944 in Oconomowoc, WI. She attended elementary and middle school at Summit Valley School, a one-room schoolhouse, and graduated from Oconomowoc High School. Marilyn chased her dreams to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison to become a nurse. It is here that Marilyn met and married Vincent H. Dahl. Together, they had four children: Matt, Leah, Linnea, and Bart.
Marilyn was a faithful volunteer in her community. She spent many hours helping care for women and children at the Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Shelter and was a valuable volunteer with hospice, caring for the dying and comforting families. Marilyn’s love of nature and gardening made her a treasured volunteer at the Paine Art Center in Oshkosh, where she led groups of school children on nature walks. Marilyn was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, WI and later in life, Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester, MN. Marilyn had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel around the country and world.
Marilyn excelled at motherhood. She grew a large garden, cooked healthy meals from scratch, was a renowned bread baker, sewed clothing, and signed her children up for classes in sports, music, and the arts. She never missed a sporting or school event and supported her children in all their endeavors. Marilyn took her role as mother & wife (and later, grandmother) very seriously and was very proud of her family.
Marilyn leaves behind four loving children and their spouses: Matt (Sarah) Dahl of Seattle, WA, Leah (Stephen) Brooks of Orange City, FL, Linnea (Robert) Baudhuin of Rochester, MN, and Bart (Jenny) Dahl of Eau Claire, WI; as well as twelve grandchildren: Seryozha and Ruslan Dahl, Linnea and Hannah Brooks, Grace, Ellie, Anna, Robert, and Matthew Baudhuin, and Amanda, Eric, and Vincent Dahl; and her beloved sister, Bethany Winkler. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Vincent Dahl, her sister, Carol Billings, and her two brothers, Kenneth & David Garbelman.
