Marion Luella Rasmussen (née Manthei), 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 23, 2026. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was centered around her family and the simple joys that brought people together.
Marion was born on October 2, 1930, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to Henry and Luella (Pietz) Manthei. She married Harley Rasmussen on November 12, 1949, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, beginning a marriage that would span decades and be filled with love, family, and adventure. Together they enjoyed traveling the state and country, visiting family and creating lasting memories along the way.
Oshkosh was Marion's home for most of her life. She spent several years in Montello during the 1990s and early 2000s before returning to Oshkosh with Harley in 2009. In 2023, she moved to Fond du Lac to be closer to her daughter and granddaughter, where she continued to enjoy the love and companionship of family.
Marion found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved reading, baking, and spending time with her family, always creating a warm and welcoming presence for those around her. Her quiet kindness and deep love for her family will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Leslie (James) Schmidt of Fond du Lac; her granddaughter, Kirsten (Steven) Larkin of Campbellsport; and her great-grandson, Austin Larkin. She is further survived by her sister, Lou Ann Polishinski of Oshkosh, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Harley; and her siblings, Henry Manthei, Julia Tritt, Betty Culver, Clarence Manthei, and Vern Manthei.
She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
The family will be holding a private viewing and funeral service to celebrate Marion's life.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at LakeHouse Assisted Living in Fond du Lac and to St. Croix Hospice for their compassion, care, and support.
