Marlene J. Fischer, age 90 of Oshkosh, passed away at Evergreen Retirement Community on Thursday, January 11, 2024. She was born in Milwaukee on April 12, 1933, to the late Ewald and Eva (Mellor) Rintelmann.
Marlene was united in marriage to Melvin Fischer on June 6, 1964 and had three children, who she dedicated her life to raising. She had a deep love for travel and camping, creating cherished memories with her family along the way. Whether it was exploring the beauty of national parks or sharing stories around a campfire, Marlene’s adventurous spirit knew no bounds.
Music was a significant part of Marlene’s life. She possessed a remarkable talent for playing the oboe and piano. Her dedication to music extended beyond her own practice, as Marlene spent much of her time as a children's choir director in both Milwaukee and Oshkosh. She had a unique ability to inspire young voices, nurturing their love for music and fostering their growth as musicians.
Marlene found comfort in the simple pleasures of life as well. She had a knack for sewing and quilting, creating beautiful works of art with her nimble fingers. When she wasn't engrossed in her creative pursuits, she could be found tackling a puzzle.
Marlene is survived by her children, Paul (Sandie) Fischer, Jenny (Jon) Olson and Heidi (Grant) Thomas; grandchildren, Jacob and Ryan (Katie) Akin, Kyle (Aeriel) Dillman, Melanie (Mitchell) Dubnicka, Samantha and Megan Fischer and Tyler Thomas; great-grandchildren, Kayden, Fiona, Oliver and Grayson. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her husband Mel Fischer, Mel’s family members, and brothers, Bruce (Hilde) and Allen (Carol) Rintelmann.
A memorial service for Marlene will be held at the Evergreen Retirement Community chapel, 1130 N. Westfield St. on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Russ Frees officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Marlene’s name at First United Methodist Church.
Marlene’s family would like to express their deep appreciation to the dedicated staff of Evergreen Retirement Community as well as Compassus Hospice, especially Nicole and Stacy, for the wonderful care provided to Marlene.
