Peter “Pete” Joseph Oehmen, age 82 years of Oshkosh passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Sunday, August 3, 2025. Pete was born May 12, 1943 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, the son of Russell Peter and Eugenie M. (Weinberger) Oehmen. He grew up in Lannon, Wisconsin where he began working at an early age delivering the Milwaukee Journal and working on the family poultry farm which provided meat for his father’s butcher shop and meat market.
Pete attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School in Mayville and then attended St. Augustine Monastery in Monastery, Nova Scotia, Canada. His work there contributed to his deep faith in God, daily prayer, and strong work ethic and provided him with lifelong friends and the skills for his post-retirement work. Pete was asked by his parish priest to return home from Nova Scotia, Canada to take care of his mother and younger siblings. He worked three jobs to provide for his family. Pete began working for United Parcel Service (UPS), Fond du Lac, on September 24, 1966. He married Marlene Priepke on June 21, 1969 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in LeRoy, Wisconsin. Together they were blessed with two daughters.
In 1991 Pete was inducted into the UPS Circle of Honor in recognition of his 25 years of safe driving. Upon retirement, Pete had achieved 35 consecutive years of safe driving. After retirement, Pete began a home repair business, and in doing so helped many people. Pete was actively involved in parish life at Most Blessed Sacrament. He served as a member of the Buildings and Grounds Committee and was instrumental in providing his expertise for projects such as the Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel. In addition to his work, Pete enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, gardening, watching Packers games and grilling his popular Weber grill steaks and pork chops. Pete was also famously known for his carrot cakes, which he lovingly made for every family birthday. Pete will be remembered for his love for God and deep Catholic faith. Pete loved his family and was known for his positive attitude, kindness, generosity and enthusiasm for life. Pete spent his life serving God, loving his family and helping others.
Survivors include Marlene Oehmen, mother of Amy (Marc) Nylen and Heidi (Mike) Tess, grandchildren David, Daniel and Olivia Nylen (significant other Nick Kouvelis), Isaac, Adam, Ann and Emily Tess and Makenzie Boening, mother of great-grandson Hudson Joseph Nylen and great-granddaughter Hadley Grace Nylen. Pete is also survived by his siblings: Howard (Valerie) Oehmen, Rita (Robert) Zimmel, Russell W. Oehmen, Bernadette (Thomas) Herman, Gerald (Ann) Oehmen, and Robert (Sandie) Oehmen. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Theresa Oehmen and other relatives.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Peter will be held on Saturday, August 9 at 10 a.m. at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Peter’s Church, 449 High Avenue, Oshkosh, Wisconsin with Fr. Jerome Pastors officiating. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Oshkosh, following the Mass of Christian Burial. A special thank you to the wonderful Evergreen Retirement Community Care Team who became like Peter’s extended family, Bart Pritzl who ministered to Pete, and Fr.
