Richard "Rick" Schmiedel

Richard "Rick" Eugene Schmiedel, age 67, of Oshkosh, WI, passed away on January 10, 2026, at Bethel Nursing Home.

Rick was born on April 21, 1958, son of Gene and Shirley (Berrell) Schmiedel, in Oshkosh, WI. Rick graduated from Oshkosh West High School. He worked with the Oshkosh school district as a custodian for 23 years. Rick married the love of his life, Barb Fast, on September 19, 1987.

Rick loved being outdoors, whether it be fishing or hunting. He was an avid Wisconsin sports fan. The Packers held a special place in his heart. He enjoyed stock car races and spent many weekends at the track helping out wherever he could. Rick cherished trips with his family. Especially his family trips to Disney and group fishing trips to Canada.

Rick is survived by his wife, Barb Schmiedel; daughters, Amanda Schmiedel; Allison Schmiedel; mother, Shirley Schmiedel; sister, Roxanne Schmiedel; brother, Scott (Jane) Schmiedel; nieces, Kaitlin and Mia; nephew, Max; and several extended family members.

He is preceded in death by his father, Gene Schmiedel; and grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Special thanks to all the staff at Bethel Home and Ascera Care for their care and compassion, and all the health care providers that assisted along the way.

A memorial service for Rick will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Konrad-Behlman Funeral-Westside, 100 Lake Pointe Dr, Oshkosh, WI, starting at 1:00pm. A time of visitation will begin at 11:00am and continue until the start of the service.
