Ronald "Ron" Schmutzer, age 89, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, April 6, 2026.
Ron was born in Berlin, Wisconsin, to Ed and Hattie Schmutzer. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1952 and went on to build a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and quiet generosity.
In his younger years, Ron worked as a pinsetter at the Rec, delivered milk, and later did maintenance work for the Northwestern. He eventually found his long-term career at Wald Wire, where he proudly worked for 37 years, retiring as a respected foreman. His strong work ethic and steady presence left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.
Ron truly enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved fishing, tending to his tomato garden, and spending time near the water. These moments brought him peace and happiness throughout the years. Later in life, he became a devoted and compassionate caretaker for his mother and his brother Jim, showing a deep sense of responsibility and love for his family.
Those who knew Ron will fondly remember his deep affection for dogs-each one treated like royalty under his care. He also cherished time spent with friends, especially sharing good conversation and many memorable fish fries.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Jim, Doug, and Ed; and his sister-in-law, Phyllis.
Ron is survived by special friends, Dave S. and Eleanor T.-thank you for the many shared meals, laughter, and lasting friendship.
In keeping with Ron's wishes, his estate will be shared with Make-A-Wish, the Oshkosh Humane Society, and his parish, St. Jude's.
A funeral service for Ron will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m, at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Eastside, 402 Waugoo Ave, Oshkosh, WI. A time of visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and continue to the start of the service. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Rest well, my good friend. Your kindness to so many people, your conversations, and your phone calls will always be cherished memories. You did well.
