Roy Hinn Jr., age 84, of Wautoma (previously of Oshkosh), passed away peacefully at Aurora Medical Center following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Roy was born on November 9, 1940 in Oshkosh, WI, son of the late Roy and Letha (Hildebrand) Hinn.
Roy was married to his beloved wife, Karen, for 63 years. They were married on October 13, 1962, at Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. Roy and Karen were lifelong members of Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, where they were in Sunday School, Confirmation Class, and confirmed together on April 11, 1954.
Roy was known to many as Roy, Roy Boy, Jim, Jimmy, Roymond, Dad, Pa, Gpa, GGpa, Pops, Teddy Bear, and Bumpy. Roy enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved his family more than anything in the world, especially all the gatherings during holidays, birthdays, and weddings.
Roy graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1958. He worked at Sunlite Dairy during his high school years, always giving the love of his life, Karen, all the free ice cream cones she wanted.
Throughout the years Roy was employed at Morgan Door, Mercury Marine, with his final years at Rockwell International, retiring in 2000 and enjoying 25 great retirement years. Roy, Karen, and family moved to California for a short time and returned to Oshkosh. After retirement, Roy and Karen moved to their cottage/home in Wautoma. Together they enjoyed many years of snowmobiling, summer days on the water "on the pontoon", card club gatherings up north, and NASCAR races, especially the Daytrona 500. Roy cherished time outdoors and hunting with his family and friends. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewers Fan. He and Karen spent their winters at their condo in Daytona Beach, FL where they have many special friends who have grown to be family.
Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Karen; daughter, Vicki (Mick) Bruehl; son, Jeff (Lisa) Hinn; grandchildren, Lindsey (Dean Baumann) Pelky, Michelle (Chris) Ebertz, Cody (Lauren) Hinn, Bryce Hinn, and Noah Bruehl; great granddaughter, Adriana Pelky; sister, Nancy Berger; sisters-in-law, Robin Hinn and Jane Rawson; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Arlene "Babe" Helstrom; father-in-law, Vic Helstrom; sister, Shirley LaMore; brothers, Richard "Dick" Hinn and Gary Hinn; brothers-in-law, Steve Berger and Roger LaMore; nieces, Shelly Grunske and Robin Soles; and nephew, Michael Berger.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Aurora Medical Center 2 West, especially Jessie, Morgan, Carly, Brittney, Gwyn, and many others who took fantastic care of Roy.
A funeral service for Roy will be held on Thursday, October 23, at 11:00 am, at Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1526 Algoma Blvd, Oshkosh. A time of visitation will be held beginning at 9:00 am and continue until the start of the service. Interment will be held at Lake View Memorial Park in Oshkosh.
