Russ Brian Peter, 56, of Oshkosh died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, February 8, 2013. He was born on September 15, 1956 in Grundy Center, IA, the son of Merlin and Darlene (Brouwer) Peter. He married his soul mate, Natalie Politz, on August 5, 1978 in Alden, MN. Russ was a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and had worked for Maytag Co. for over 34 years which included living in California, Minnesota, Indiana, Iowa, and Michigan before moving to Wisconsin to take a new position as the Director of Product Development for Alliance Laundry Systems.In his high school years Russ excelled at basketball and set a school record of 33 rebounds that still stands. Russ passed his love of athletics on to his four children. He coached his kids in AAU basketball and was the President of both the Boys and Girls Booster Clubs at Lakeshore High School in Stevensville, MI. Russ was President of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Grinnell, IA and recently joined Calvary Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, WI. Russ most enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, and always looked forward to planning the next gathering. In his spare time Russ avidly supported the Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers; he was also a history buff and enjoyed reading his Bible. Survivors include his wife, Natalie of Oshkosh; parents, Merlin and Darlene Peter of Urbandale, IA; son, Troy Peter of Cedar Rapids, IA; daughters, Nicole (Dustin) Whitehead of Waterloo, IA, Lindsay (Adam) Benge of Shakopee, MN, Courtney Peter of Stevensville, MI; grandchildren, Hayden and Eli Benge and Caleb Whitehead. Also surviving are his brother, Greg (Tina) Peter of Lees Summit, MO; sister, Kim (Mike) Murphy of Bozeman, MT; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Calvary Lutheran Church (2580 W 9th Ave) at 5:00 pm with the Rev. Timothy Routh officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Burial will be in the Hazelwood Cemetery, Grinnell IA, on Friday, February 15, 2013, with a graveside service at 2:00 pm and reception to follow at St. Johns Lutheran Church.Russ was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was devoted to his familys happiness. He led by example in faith, love, and life. The rock of our family will be deeply missed.
