Scott Daryl Nikolaus, age 56, passed away at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah, WI, from a sudden traumatic brain injury on Thursday, July 2, 2026. He left peacefully, with his sister Missy by his side. He was born in Oshkosh, WI, on July 21, 1969, to Daryl B Nikolaus and the late Christine A (Newell) Misterek and lived his entire life in Oshkosh.
Scott aka Scotty aka Nick attended Sunset Elementary, Merrill Middle, and Oshkosh North High Schools and worked a variety of jobs throughout his life. He was married to the darling Vicki L (Fuller) from June 3, 1995, until her death on August 28, 2010. He loved fishing at the family cottage on Post Lake (and anywhere else he could), building and riding electric bikes, collecting and playing guitars and banjos, thrift shopping for the weirdest things he could find, collecting antiques, building model cars, drawing, hanging out with friends, listening to music on the Fox River, his dog Arnie, his cat Pixie, his late cat Bam Bam, The Grateful Dead, B.B. King, the color blue, ice cream, cherry sour balls, pizza, candy fruit slices, and his holiday and family gathering favorite: giant plates of ham.
Scott is survived by his father Daryl B Nikolaus; sister Melissa K "Missy" (Robert Anderson) Jolin; brother Steven J (Berlyn) Nikolunauer; half-sister Nicole S Hoelzel; nephew Cody S (Tess) Jolin; nephew and niece Hank N and Hadley N Hoelzel; stepfather David L Misterek and family; Uncle Joe and Aunt Kathy Molinski and family; over one hundred Nikolaus, Newell, and Misterek extended family members; and many close and treasured friends.
In addition to his mother "Ma" and wife Vicki, Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Margaret Nikolaus, grandparents Edgar and Rosemary Newell, step-grandma Marie Misterek, step-great-uncle Elmer and step-great-aunt Ruth Esther Stryzewski (who, until her death in 2024, was the oldest person in Wisconsin at 112 years old), uncles Stephen and Richard "Dick" Nikolaus, uncle Lynn Newell, aunt Nancy Newell, uncle Bernie Behlman, and brother-in-law Nathan "Nate" Hoelzel.
There will be no formal funeral as Scott would absolutely prefer that loved ones honor and remember him in their own ways and through small, private gatherings.
Scott gave the gift of sight and healing through cornea and tissue donation, with the potential to improve the lives of over 75 people. A portion of his cremated remains will be scattered at the family cottage on Post Lake where he loved to fish and where he lovingly spread of portion of his "Ma's" ashes three years ago.
Scott's family would like to thank his friends for seeking help immediately after his fall, the ICU staff at ThedaCare Regional for their tremendous care and compassion during his final hours, Matt Thomas at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home for his great help and comfort, and everyone who reached out with condolences and hilariously eye-rolling, charming, and interesting stories about Scott's endless antics. He will be forever remembered and greatly missed.
