Sharon Thompson

July 1, 1938 — July 5, 2025

Sharon Gail (Wohlt) Thompson, 87, peacefully passed away on July 5, 2025. She was born on July 1, 1938, to Carlton and Irene (Hoffman) Wohlt in Oshkosh, her lifelong home. Sharon was a strong woman and beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. We will always remember her exceptional creativity and artistic ability, dry sense of humor, and lovable sass.

Sharon had many different jobs, most notably at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, prior to her retirement. She was a faithful member of Bethany United Church of Christ for decades, and excelled at cards, games, crafts, gardening, drawing and painting, and making us all laugh and feel loved.

Sharon is survived by her loving and devoted sons: Scott (Wendy Hocking) Neitzel and David (Jessica) Neitzel; wonderful stepdaughters, Lesley Thompson and Elizabeth (Loal) King, and caring sister and brother-in-law, Marcia (Dave) Wiedemann. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Nick (Svetlana), Eric, Lauren (Cody), Keenan (Tiegen), Hunter (Madison), Phalen (Nick), Sam (Chelsea), Isabella (Cade), Katherine, Phillip (Darshae) and R. Reagan (Antonia). Sharon adored her beautiful great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them: Claire, Evelyn, Isla, Jett, Aerie, Nikolas, Kurtis and Bristol. She is also survived by her former sister-in-law, Gloria Wohlt; former brother- and sister-in-law, Doug (Jean) Neitzel, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear and loyal friends.

In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her husband and sweetheart of over 40 years, Philip John Thompson; brother, Richard Wohlt; stepson, P.J. Thompson, Jr., and first husband, Robert E. Neitzel.

The family is planning a private memorial service.

Anyone wishing to remember Sharon is welcome to make a donation in her name to the Paine Art Center, the Salvation Army, the Christine Ann Center in Oshkosh, or an organization of their choice.
