Sheldon C. Chapin, 88, of Oshkosh died Thursday August 11, 2011 at Aurora Medical Center.He was born January 4, 1923 in Osakis, MN a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Jackling) Chapin. Sheldon married Shirley Weber on October 31, 1941 in Oshkosh.Sheldon had been a truck driver for Pipkorn Fuel & Supply and then the City of Oshkosh for 20 years before retiring. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, and traveling-especially in Hawaii and Florida. His favorite times were being spent with his family. He proudly served his country during WWII as a U.S. Navy Seabees veteran.He is survived by his wife Shirley of Oshkosh; a daughter Joan (Richard) Mueller of Ripon; two sons, Dennis (Karen) Chapin of Oshkosh and Thomas (Charlene) Chapin of Denver; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; four sisters Shirley (Elmer) Snell of Cedar Rapids, IA, Thelma Reynolds of Port Washington, WI, Mildred Brown of Shelbyville, IN, and Laurel Schroeder of Gillett, WI; and a brother James (Violet) Chapin of Oshkosh. Sheldon was preceded in death by a grandson Joshua Chapin, two sisters, and nine brothers. A memorial service for Sheldon will be held Tuesday August 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home - Westside with Rev. Andi Wolf officiating and Military Honors to follow. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to the service time. Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Park. A memorial in Sheldons name is being established. Sheldons family would like to extend a special thank you to the Evergreen Retirement Community and the Aurora Medical Center ICU Doctors and staff for the care and compassion given to Sheldon.
