Shirley A. Sollberger

February 9, 1931 — October 1, 2021

Shirley A. Sollberger, age 90, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021, at Eastbrook in Oshkosh. She was born on February 9, 1931, to the late Josephine (Stemler) Forbes in Berlin, WI. She was united in marriage to James D. Sollberger on July 8, 1955, in Illinois.

Shirley was a kind gentle person who loved spending time with family and friends. She truly enjoyed spending time playing cards with her many friends, and if there was a bingo game going on, she was there. During several summers, she was out at the park working in the soccer concession stand, and during the winter you could find her at T&O lanes in the Morning Ladies League.

Earlier in life she ran a group home for special needs adults in her home and later worked in a group home for troubled youth. Shirley was so kindhearted, always helping those who needed it.

One of her favorite things to do was fishing. Her and her husband Jim would go fishing on Shawano Lake, occasionally renting a cabin with a pontoon boat. When they weren’t on the lake, you could find them on the Red River fishing from shore where she would usually out fish Jim, all the while sitting there with a wry smile on her face.

Everything about her will be truly missed, especially her giving heart, sense of humor, and mischievous smile and laugh that could light up a room. Heaven’s gain is the world’s loss.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Christine (Erik) Nelson; two sons: Gary (Linda) Sollberger, James W. (Mary) Sollberger; seven grandchildren: Heidi (Jeremy) Booth, Heather Dahlke, Jacob (Samantha Laabs) Sollberger, Eric Nelson, Zachary Nelson, Benjamin Sollberger, Jonathan Sollberger; eight great grandchildren: Alexis, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Paige, Joshua, Julia, Jackson, and Hailey Marie; and one sister, Josephine Krukow; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. She was further preceded in death by her husband, James D. Sollberger; great granddaughters: Hailey Nicole, Abigail; brothers: Ralph Forbes, Gene Forbes; sisters: Joyce Radley, Grace Waite, Rosemary Forbes, and Catherine Forbes.
