Tanner J. Hielsberg

July 5, 1989 — August 23, 2025

Oshkosh

Tanner J. Hielsberg, 36, of Oshkosh, passed away unexpectedly at home from a heart attack on August 23, 2025. Born on July 5, 1989, he was the son of Vicky Gerlach and the late Jim Hielsberg.

A 2007 graduate of Oshkosh West High School, Tanner found his calling early in the world of technology. He carved out a career in IT, where he combined his sharp mind with a genuine love for problem-solving. Whether he was building custom PCs or staying up to date on the latest tech trends, Tanner never stopped learning—and he never hesitated to help others do the same.

Though quiet by nature, Tanner had a unique way of connecting with those around him. He appreciated order, simplicity, and meaningful routines. His version of a good day might include a perfectly prepped meal, a drive across the Michigan border, or hours spent immersed in his video games. He enjoyed chatting with his family over the phone, always starting with a familiar “Hey! How’s it going?” and never hanging up without saying, “I love you.” Those simple words, spoken so often, were a reflection of his deep love and unwavering connection to the people he cared about most. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his nieces, especially when they worked on their science projects together—moments he treasured deeply. Tanner had a dry sense of humor and a thoughtful spirit that left a lasting impression on those lucky enough to know him.

Tanner is survived by his mother, Vicky Gerlach; sisters, Jamie (Brian) Schwarz and Josie (Dominic Ranieri) Hielsberg; and his beloved nieces, Starlyn, Taygen, and Kobie. He is also survived by his uncle Rocky Gerlach; aunts Julie Konop and Margarita Hielsberg; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Hielsberg; grandparents, Fred and Jean Gerlach and Robert and Barbara Hielsberg; and uncles, Greg Hielsberg and Mark Konop.

A private celebration of Tanner’s life will be held by his family.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in his name.
