Thomas M. Sullivan, D. P. M., Age 97, of Oshkosh died Friday, July 3 at Aurora Medical Center. He was born on October 17, 1928, in Oshkosh, the son of Dr. Patrick and Leone (Kitz) Sullivan. Tom married Betty Schmiedel at Grace Lutheran Church on September 20, 1958, in Oshkosh.
Tom was engaged in the practice of podiatry for 36 years. He attended Oshkosh State Teachers' college and graduated from the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago in 1954 and practiced in Detroit, Michigan and Wauwatosa, Wisconsin before retiring in 1990. Tom and Betty returned to Oshkosh in September 2000.
Tom was a life member of American Podiatric Medical Association as well as the Wisconsin Society of Podiatric medicine. He's a member of Grace Ev. Lutheran Church. He volunteered at the Waukesha office of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for many years and more recently at the Oshkosh Public Museum. Tom served in the medical department in the U. S. Army from 1950 to 1952 with the 397th Evacuation Hospital Semimobile. Tom was privileged to serve his Lord at Lola Park Lutheran Church in Redford Township, Michigan and Star of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in New Berlin, Wisconsin in various positions. At Grace Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, Tom was active in the Men's Club and Grace Forever Young, a seniors organization.
Thomas is survived by his nephews, Pat (Lucy) Sullivan, Racine; Tom (Lori) Sullivan, Kenosha; Gary (Tina) Schmiedel, Oshkosh; nieces, Kathie (Hugh) Tollack, Dallas, Texas, and Beth (Gary) Goldberg of Denver, Colorado. He's also survived by grand nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Betty; brother, David (Betty) Sullivan; and brother-in-law, Robert (Marcella) Schmiedel.
Funeral services will take place at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church (913 Nebraska St) on July 13, 2026, at 11AM. A time of visitation will be from 10AM at the church until the time of services. Interment at Lakeview Memorial Park will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Tom's family requests that memorials be made to Grace Ev. Lutheran Church.
