Virginia "Ginny" A. Hinz

September 4, 1930 — February 28, 2024

Oshkosh

Virginia “Ginny” Ann Hinz, age 93 of Oshkosh, passed away unexpectedly at Ascension Mercy Hospital on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. She was born on September 4, 1930, to the late Joseph Peter and Virginia Ann (Steinfort) Konrath. In 1948, Ginny was married to Darrell Hinz, and together raised two sons.

Ginny grew up in Oshkosh and loved the skating rink as a girl. She would tell stories of waltzing, two-step, and being lifted high in the air by a partner as they danced around the rink. It was at the rink that she met Darrell. They wed in 1948, lived in Van Dyne for 40 years, and then built a house on Candlish Harbour in Black Wolf. They were married for 72 years until his passing in 2021.

She worked as a bookkeeper for many years in the supermarket industry, was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and later a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.

Throughout her life, Ginny found joy in spending time outdoors, relaxing on their boat, casting a line while fishing, hitting the green for a round of golf, or simply cutting the grass, which she did into her 90s. In retirement, Ginny and Darrell took the opportunity to see the world, becoming winter snowbirds in Florida, while also taking trips to places such as Europe, Alaska, and Israel.

Ginny's passion for cooking and entertaining shone brightly as she warmly welcomed friends and family into her home, always ensuring everyone was well-fed and full of laughter.

Ginny is survived by her sons, Dennis (Wendy) Hinz and Kenneth Hinz; grandchildren, Katharine (Daniel) Hale, Carolyn (Bradley) Ackley, and Christina Hinz, Crystal (Andrew) Gruszka, Justin Hinz and Deanna (Ryan) McCarty; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Leah Hale, Camryn, Gavin, Levi and Brynn Ackley, Nadia and William Gruszka, Rayne and Ryder McCarty; brother-in-law, Larry (Virginia) Hinz; sister-in-law, Karen (Duane) Schroeder, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ginny was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Hinz; siblings, Jim Konrath, Betty (Harry) Zelhofer, Joe (Dorothy) Konrath, and Adeline (Leonard) Shilobrit.

A memorial service for Ginny will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2580 W. 9th Ave. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The interment will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

In place of flowers please consider a donation to Calvary Lutheran Church.

The Hinz family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the staff at Bella Vista for the care they provided to Ginny throughout her time living there. Thank you also to the Mercy ER for the kindness and compassion provided to Ginny and her family.
