Obituary for George Edward Oakeson

Oshkosh - George E. Oakeson, age 85, 'The Good Guy' blessed with a quick wit, peacefully departed this life and joined his Lord Jesus on March 3, 2018, in his home surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's.

He was born on October 9, 1932, in Menominee, MI and grew up in Peshtigo, WI. George was the son to the late George and Lilian (Bandow) Oakeson. He married Mildred "Gina" Munson on June 15, 1958 in Marinette WI, and they shared 60 wonderful years together.

A graduate of UW Madison with a BS in Agriculture. Out of college George and Gina resided in the State of Washington for a few years. In 1960, they returned to Wisconsin for a short period of time before relocating to Minneapolis. During which, George became a Salesman for Georgia Pacific, with a territory of MN, WI and MI, he then transferred to Oshkosh in 1966. After retiring in 1994, he still wasn't ready to stop working, so he established a successful Rep firm for several years.

George was a true lover of life, a kind and gentle man who always looked for the positive side of things. He always made everyone around him laugh with a joke and his warm humor. He enjoyed having a dog along his side, loved to hunt, fish and spend time at the cabin in Upper Michigan. His hunting and fishing trips often took him to Montana and Canada. After retirement, George and Gina enjoyed traveling to many more places such as Mexico and Tahiti as well as spending several winters in Arizona.

George trusted in Christ as his Savior, and was a long time member of Calvary Lutheran Church where he served on the Memorial Committee. He was a proud lifelong blood donor and would give every chance he got. George loved spending time with family and friends quietly listening to others and lending a genuine word of wisdom which would leave you feeling as though everything would be okay in the end.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Lilian, sister Mary and brother-in-law Arnie Zeitler, brother-in-law Jack Erickson.

He is survived by his loving wife Mildred "Gina" Oakeson, sister Ruth Erickson, twin brother John (Marie) Oakeson, son Paul (Kathy) Oakeson, daughter Lori Oakeson, Grandchildren: Erik (Jess) Oakeson, Courtney (Ethan) Oakeson, Hannah Oakeson, Kara (Rob) Kerrigan, Meghan Kerrigan and Shannon Kerrigan. Great Grandchildren: Grace and Sawyer Oakeson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
